Intravenous Sedation
Intravenous or IV sedation is a type of anesthesia that is given to the patient to stop them from feeling any kind of pain. It is also known as monitored anesthesia care or MAC.
There may be different types of IV sedation, as per the surgical procedure and the amount of anesthesia needed. Monitored Anesthesia or IV sedation is administered through a vein. During the effect of this type of sedation, the patients can talk and are not in deep sleep.
Intravenous sedation is safe and effective for patients needing minor surgery. The benefits of intravenous sedation include the ability to give a precise amount of anesthesia, better safety, fewer chances of the conditions like nausea, vomiting, urinary retention, pulmonary complications, etc., faster recovery, low risk of blood clots formation, etc.
The patient under IV sedation can breathe normally without needing a vent. Before administering the IV sedation, the doctor will ask you about any allergies or medical conditions you may have. You must also inform the doctor about the medications you are taking. Visit Bull Creek Dental to know more.
